Bike Accident
The piece of raw beef also known as my left knee.
I'm all busticated.
It happened on Queens Chapel Rd, before it becomes Michigan Ave. I was cruising down the hill last night on my way back home from work when I ran into a deep-impact style pothole. That area of the street is not well lit up at night, so I had no idea it was even there until I was right upon it. I was pretty much going at terminal velocity at that moment, and I was very aware of minimizing the damage I was about to receive. Both my tires went instantly flat when I hit the pothole, and I tried to steer away to the side of the road while unclipping myself from the bike. I stayed upright for about three seconds before taking a spill on mostly my left side. Good news is there weren't any cars near or behind me. Bad news is, I stopped myself and the bike with my knees, hands, and chin. The bike took minimal damage on the seat and left brake handle. This would never had happened if I was riding my mountain bike, but it was just bad luck because I was not riding recklessly on my track bike.
I get up and rolled my bike and myself to the side of the road to assess the damage. I had no air pump for my bike, and chances are the tires need to be replaced. Blood was starting to make its way to the surface of the scrapes. I took a few steps to check myself out and I felt no major injuries aside from the loss of skin. Fortunately, West Hyattsville metro station was not too far away, so I decided to take the train back home. On the way back, I see Mr. Lee's liquor store, and I'm wondering if Mr. Lee could hook a brotha up. I get in there to use the bathroom to clean up so I don't bleed all over the people on the train. Plus, I looked like I just got mauled by some wild animal. It would not have been appropriate if I had left the store without a 40 of OE.
On the brightly lit train, the raw beef status of my left knee was showing its full glory. BTW, I'm wearing shorts...with bloody cuffs. As expected, I got the "Please don't bleed on me you avian flu infected Asian man" look on the train. Luckily, I always carry extra socks when riding. I took a seat and covered my left knee with my socks. There, I felt better eventhough both my hands are bloody along with my chin and right knee. By no means was this accident as bad as the "stair jumping incident". Kids getting on the train thought that I had just killed a dozen ninjas with my bare hands. That train ride was so long...you know those late night trains.
The bike is getting fixed up now as I'm writing this. I slept pretty much in a sitting position last night - with an empty 40 in hand - so I didn't get blood and Neosporin all over my towel covered bed. I'm a little sore and surly today. What I'm thinking though is which sucks more?...soaking myself in DC lead water, or immersing myself in salty Pacific water in Hawaii. I'll update that whenever/wherever I can get online this week.
Well, on other note...I only played on Friday at Fools tournament and we went 2-0. That was my highlight for the weekend.
UPDATE: Just got my bike back, and I had to replace my front tire and both inner tubes. It's looking good. Can't wait to gross out Aaron and Anat when I see them this evening at Ben's Chili Bowl.
